Major Update: Brickam’s Professional Responsibility Packs

Major Update: Brickam’s Professional Responsibility Packs

You told us our Professional Responsibility questions needed to be harder. We took that feedback seriously.

We’ve substantially revised both our Barrister and Solicitor Professional Responsibility packs, reworking the answer choices, refining the scenarios and updating the explanations.

Our previous approach aimed to balance accessibility with challenge. But a consistent concern emerged: too many questions allowed candidates to spot the correct answer without having to work closely through the alternatives. We wanted these packs to ask more of you.

Closer choices. Harder decisions.

Much of the work went into the multiple-choice answers. Detailed facts only take a question so far if the incorrect choices are easy to dismiss.

The revised choices are more closely matched in length, structure and detail. Distractors turn on finer distinctions: applying a rule at the wrong stage, overlooking an exception, confusing permission with an obligation, or identifying the right duty but drawing the wrong conclusion.

Knowing the general rule will help. Choosing the best answer will require you to apply it carefully.

More attention to the details that matter.

We also reviewed the questions and explanations for substantive problems. We corrected identified errors, narrowed statements that were too broad and clarified facts where the answer depended on information the original question had left unstated.

That included distinctions between current-client and former-client conflicts, a lawyer’s obligations following a joint wills retainer, and the requirements for handling trust funds. We also took greater care to distinguish mandatory professional obligations from recommended practices.

The explanations have been revised alongside the questions to make the reasoning clearer and help candidates understand why a plausible alternative falls short.

The result is a more demanding set of questions, with greater emphasis on applying the rules to the particular facts. You should expect to spend more time weighing the choices and get more out of reviewing the answers.

Already purchased a PR pack in 2026? Your upgrade is included.

If you purchased the previous version this year, you will receive the revised version automatically and at no additional cost. There is no need to repurchase the pack or request an upgrade.

Existing customers should benefit from these improvements just as much as candidates purchasing today.

Thank you to everyone who gave us honest, specific feedback. It helped identify where the packs needed work and shaped the changes we’ve made. We’re pleased to put the updated questions in your hands.
